Riverside Receives Grant, Hosts Autism Movement Therapy® Training

Riverside Developmental Disabilities recently received a grant from the Stouder Memorial Foundation to host Autism Movement Therapy® training for parents of children with autism, and teachers and professionals who work with people with autism. The program uses movement and music to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders achieve speech and language, social and academic goals.
“As a parent of a child with autism, you’re always looking for new ways to help your child succeed,” said Brian Green, Riverside Superintendent. “Every person with autism is different, and this therapy is simply one of the many options that can be helpful to people with autism. This training will be helpful to the parents and professionals who attend, and we are grateful to the Stouder Memorial Foundation for their generosity in helping us bring this course to Miami County.”

Autism Movement Therapy® is led by Joanne Lara, a professional dancer turned classroom education specialist and university professor. Lara has dedicated her life’s work to improving the lives of individuals with autism through movement and music. Through the nonprofit organization Autism Movement Therapy®, Lara lectures, certifies, trains, and licenses dancers, educators, parents, and professional service providers throughout the world. The training, held August 5 and 6 at Riverside, is limited to 50 participants, and all spots were filled quickly.
